“Holt does December differently. California Contemporary Ballet’s Snow Queen- Stands Out!”
Los Angeles Times Blog - Debra Levine
“Holiday alternatives do exist for the imaginative ballet master. One smart coach, Aerin Holt of California Contemporary Ballet, who grew up dancing “The Nutcracker,” decided she had had enough. Holt developed a vehicle that provides all-things-Nutty: an innocuous family outing, exposure to classical ballet for kids and a big-tent approach to casting. Only, it’s not the “Nutcracker, it’s “The Snow Queen.” Adios Sugar Plum Fairy. Bienvenidos, er … Queeny.” “Holt and her Snow Queen scores high marks”
Glendale Newspress - Nicole Charky “The Nutcracker” is often the usual Christmas classic, but locals know another story: “The Snow Queen.” California Contemporary Ballet, I believe, has made a new tradition out of the Snow Queen but it’s not your typical Christmas, Nutcracker ballet it is its own classic in its own right. What Holt has done with it is taken a very beautiful tale and put kind of a performance edge on it.”
